TANNA alert level 2

TANNA VOLCANO ALERT BULLETIN No1 issued by the Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory (VGO) within the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department (VMGD) on 17th January 2017 at 11:09AM : The Alert Level for Tanna Volcano remains at Level 2. This means that its volcanic activity is in the major unrest stage and some volcanic explosions remain strong. Volcanic bombs may fall in and/or around the crater and volcanic. The area of risk remains around the volcanic crater. The permanent Exclusion Zone is always closed (Shouldn’t be Access) but the Zones beyond this area, Zone A and B are opened (Could be Access) (See photo below). This is another reminder to all visitors to observe this volcano away from the Exclusion Zone which is about 395 m around the eruptive vents to avoid volcanic projectiles, gas, ashes and any other volcano activity related incidents. Volcanic gases and ashes can also affect villages that are exposed to trade winds. All communities, villages, visitors and travel agencies have to seriously consider this information.
