LOPEVI level 3

LOPEVI VOLCANO ALERT BULLETIN No1 issued by the Vanuatu Geohazards Observatory (VGO) within the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department (VMGD) on 13th January 2017 at 13h56PM:

Based on observation done by the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department shows that the Lopevi volcanic activity has changed and its Alert Level is increased to Level 3. This means that the Lopevi volcanic activity is in minor eruption stage. At this Alert Level, the volcanic activity could increase or decrease at any time. The area of risk is around the Lopevi Island. Volcanic gas and ashes can also affect surrounding islands that are exposed to trade winds.

Advice to all communities, villages, visitors and travel agencies to seriously consider this information.

The Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department will continue to closely monitor this volcano activity. More information will be provided accordingly when necessary.
